| BIG BINS: Independent Bin Supplies managing director Neil Stewart with some of the hundreds of 660-litre communal wheelie bins to be distributed to apartment blocks as part of the council’s new recycling collection, which starts next month. |
| Workers at a Christchurch-owned bin supply company began the busy task of labelling the Christchurch City Council’s new large communal wheelie bins at a Sockburn warehouse on Monday. Independent Bin Supplies managing director Neil Stewart said he and three workers hot-stamped the words Christchurch City Council on the first 100 of the larger 660 litre and 360 litre bins, to be used at apartment blocks, by Monday afternoon. Mr Stewart expects to process hundreds more of the Asian imported green bins, which will be shipped into Lyttelton over the next weeks. His company won the contract to stamp the bins against stiff international competition, he said. "It was a bit of a turn-up for a local company to get it." Contractors will collect contents from the communal bins on site rather than at the kerb. The new fortnightly recycling collection begins next month. |
